Lets learn how to add a printer. This is a simple process that takes just a little bit of know how….  So lets get started!

 

1.)    To add a printer you must first locate the start button:

SELECT” the start button.

 

2.)    Once the start button is selected you will then see a start menu:

3.)    Move your mouse over the devices and printers option in the start menu located in the right column:

SELECT” the devices and printers option.

 

4.)    This will bring you to the drivers and printers dialog box:

5.)    Notice in the top left corner, you will see 2 options.... for this tutorial you will “SELECT” the add a printer option:

6.)    This will bring up another window which will ask you which type of printer would you want to add? :

7.)    For this example, we are going to add a local printer over a network:

SELECTthe add a local printer option.

 

 

8.)Now, once you have chosen which type of printer you want to install…. You will need to choose which port this printer will work off:

9.)    In the choose a port window, we will be creating a new port to use the printer on.

 

 

SELECT  the create a new port option:Description: Capture9.PNG

                Also make sure you “SELECT” the standard TCP/IP port for the type of port and “SELECT” next.

10.) Now you will have to add the IP address of your printer ( to get the IP address of the printer, you can simply go to the printer and press the print a test page button, it will then proceed to print a test page and located on that test page will be all sorts of info about the printer which includes the IP address) :

                Add the IP address in the hostname or IP address section and the port name section will fill itself out.     Then “SELECT” NEXT.

 

11.) It will then try and detect the TCP/IP port you added earlier:

12.) Once the TCP/IP port is located, it will ask you for additional information:

                SELECT” NEXT.

 

13.)  It will then try and locate printer drivers for the printer you are adding:

14.)  The install a printer driver menu will appear:

                At this point you can either add a generic driver for your printer or add a driver you downloaded on your computer.  Lets add the printer driver we previously downloaded:

SELECTthe have disk option.

 

 

15.) A menu will appear that will ask the location of the driver on your pc:

SELECT” the browse option:

16.) Now you will need to direct the pc to the exact location of the driver in your pc:

Once you have located the driver “SELECT” open.

 

17.) Now that you have the driver inplace, you will be adding a “name” to your printer so you can recognize it in your pc….. for this example we will type in test printer:

SELECT” next after typing in the name of the printer you chose.

 

18.) The printer will now be installed:

19.) When its done installing it will then ask you if you would like to share your printer with others:

                You can share or not share….. after your choice, “SELECT” next.

 

20.)  At this point it will ask you if you would like to print a test page, if you would like a test page “SELECT” print a test page, if you would like to finish “SELECT” finish….. you have now successfully added a printer over a network:
